Vintage Arklow Pottery Ceramic Ashtray – Player’s No. 3 Advertising – Extra Size

This rarely seen collectible ashtray is probably circa 1977 – 1985 during the Noritake China ownership era.  It is made of glazed ceramic porcelain.  Colors are white, red, pea-green & yellow-gold*.2 sides of the square ashtray read:  PLAYER’S No. 3 EXTRA SIZE FILTER VIRGINIA2 sides of the square ashtray read: A man’s cigarette – and smoothLight-gold-colored backstamp underneath ceramic ashtray reads:MADE IN ENGLAND FORArklow An Tseapain Tir A Dheanta NOTE:  An Tseapain Tir A Dheanta is Irish Gaelic for Made in Japan The “Extra Size” designation likely refers to a specific length, such as a king-size (around 79-88 mm) or a longer size, compared to regular 70mm cigarettes. Approximate Overall Dimensions:  4.125″ (L) x 4.125″ (W) x 4.125″ (H), pre-shipping weight of ashtray is about 1.4 lbs. No chips or cracks.  Commensurate with age, there is crazing throughout.  On the top-inside of this mid-century modern ( MCM ) ashtray, there is a small mark underneath the glaze which may be a manufacturing flaw (as shown in photos).
